Finally. After the many years of saying 'I'm going to get to Hampi', here I am. It's been worth it. A fabulous place in the middle of fields of huge boulders the size of houses, and a nice little travelers community. It is pretty hot during the day, so you definitely stay out of it from noon to 3pm, but that's ok. I'm staying at a really nice guesthouse, and the people I meet have been interesting and good to hang with. A few more mosquitoes than I expected - being pretty well in a desert area - but fine to deal with. Of course, the main reason for being here is the fabulous deserted city that was the centre of the Vijayangar empire - massive ruins everywhere, huge statues cut into rocks.....and good traveler's food.
